Northview Apartments Impress Local Residents and US Senators

When we completed work on our Northview Senior Apartments in 2016 the project was lauded by everyone from our US Senator Shelly Moore Capito to the new tenants of the units.

Senator Capito attended a ribbon cutting event and noted that, “it is phenomenal to see how the Randolph County Housing Authority together with Woodlands, the WV Housing Development Fund, and others are helping to improve the lives of West Virginia’s senior community.”

The Northview project was designed to serve Randolph County’s rapidly growing population of elderly and disabled residents who lacked affordable living options. This community of residents also indicated that rather than a large senior housing complex, “they would prefer smaller, scattered sites that included green space and were close to services,” according to Dave Clark. “That is exactly what we are trying to do with Northview Senior Apartments.

One of the new residents remarked that, “I just love everything about this place. The kitchen is open, the doorways are wider, and I just love the shower.” Over our 20+ years of building housing, Woodlands has developed designs that are fully adaptable for disabled residents, and can be transitioned to an adaptable layout in one day.

“These were funded in part by the HOME program, a great federal funding program that allows us to build smaller units in scattered sites set up to help the rural areas,” Clark said.

“HOME doesn’t make for free housing, but offsets our costs so we can reduce the rent. A unit in Elkins like this may cost $950 per month, but our fees will be about half that and allow seniors to move in affordably.”
