New Artist Business Development Seminar Series Coming Soon: Paint it Black

We are excited to announce the second phase of our Lost Towns project: a seminar series designed to encourage and support artists in turning their craft into successful businesses. This 5-part series will take place on select Mondays, once/month from April through August and each day of the program will cover aspects of running small businesses with a focus on skills and nuance particular to artists. The seminars will take place at the Tygart Hotel in Elkins and will be free to attend.

A morning presentation will be followed by one-on-one sessions with each expert or hands-on workshops as well as networking opportunities and group discussions led by the Mountain Arts District. Materials and guidance about how to leverage financing and small business loans to afford and achieve your art dreams will be offered at each session.

The first seminar on April 28th will feature Richwood’s Cecil Ybanez who will be discussing how to work with galleries, best practices for presenting work in a gallery setting, and dos and don’ts of public display of art for sale. A full listing of seminar topics and presenters as well as registration links will be available soon. A limited number of stipends are available to help cover travel, lodging, or childcare costs for attendees.

If you are interested in attending one or more of these seminars, please fill out an interest form here to help us plan accordingly, receive updated registration links, and the first chance to apply for stipends. Updates will also be posted on Woodlands’ social media accounts (see webpage footer) and on our webpage at https://woodlandswv.org/paintitblack/
