April 28th, Tygart Hotel, Elkins, WV
Cecil Ybanez and David Ward opened Bloomfield Richwood, an art gallery in downtown Richwood, WV, in August 2021, with the mission of highlighting contemporary Appalachian art. To date, Bloomfield has featured close to 100 artists from WV, Kentucky, Ohio, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia and North Carolina through solo shows, shared shows and open call group shows.
Having personally installed the great majority of these shows, Cecil has observed up close both good and bad examples of artists presenting their work, and will be sharing some examples of best practices of excellent framing and wiring pieces that he has come across. Included will be examples of both commercial and home-made frames.
Cecil will also discuss the different types of galleries an artist will encounter, what motivates each type, how to approach them, and how to present your work to gallerists, curators, dealers and clients in a professional manner that will leave a positive impression on them.
As subjective as the art world is, it’s the details and finesse that can make a difference.
In the afternoon, Talbott Frame Shop will host a hands-on matting and framing workshop that will put Cecil’s tips into practice. Throughout the day participants will have the opportunity to discuss their own experiences and best practices when working with galleries and Woodlands Development and Lending will present an intro to small loans and lines of credit.
