New Units Opening on the Banks of the Blackwater River

Woodlands Development and Lending is excited to open the doors to tenants at the new Blackwater Avenue apartments in Davis, WV in early 2022. This community complex of 8 rental units includes two fully accessible apartments and is a much-needed expansion in affordable workforce housing.

In Tucker County, WV, the views are stunning, the folks are friendly, and affordable long-term rental units are extremely difficult to come by. The booming tourism industry in the county is driving real estate values up and prompting landlords to convert their units to short-term, AirBnB-style rentals at the same time that demand for retail and service industry workers is growing stronger.

Our in-house construction crew built the project throughout the COVID pandemic, and the project timeline had to be extended due to all the related issues: supply chain issues, an overworked force of contractors, and lost time due to quarantines.

The housing needs in our Randolph, Barbour, and Tucker service area are as diverse as our population. Housing for our seniors, disabled, young families, and students is all in short supply for many reasons. At Woodlands every project begins with a community conversation because we believe that local people make the best decisions about the places they live. The Blackwater project grew from a request by the town of Davis to address workforce and senior housing needs. With cozy, energy-efficient units and an outdoor community space between the buildings we hope that the project provides safe, healthy housing and contributes positive energy to the surrounding neighborhood for decades to come.
